CANADIAN WINE & SPIRITS

While countries like Scotland, Japan, and the U.S. dominate the world of spirits, and France, Italy, and Australia are known for their exceptional wines, Canada has quietly made a name for itself with its impressive wineries and distilleries. From the fruity wines of the Okanagan Valley to the smoky, salty whisky of Newfoundland, Canada offers a diverse range of products that are finally getting the recognition they deserve on the global stage.

Crown Royal

One of the most iconic Canadian whisky brands, one simply cannot discuss Canadian spirits without the mention of Crown Royal. Introduced in 1939, the brand was originally created to celebrate the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth that same year. Their visit was the first of any reigning monarch to Canada, and when announced, distiller and Seagram’s owner Samuel Bronfmann began a meticulous process to craft a Canadian whisky fit for a king.

With an iconic cut glass decanter, housed in a stitched gold and purple bag, the resulting blended whisky was truly royal. From its early origins in Waterloo, to today’s operations in Gimli, Manitoba, Crown Royal remains recognized worldwide for their exceptional line of Canadian rye.

Mission Hill Family Estate Winery

Nestled beside the beautiful Okanagan Lake in West Kelowna, Mission Hill Family Estate Winery is one of many fantastic wineries in British Columbia’s renowned Okanagan Valley.

Mission Hill is celebrated for producing exceptional wines like their flagship Oculus release. With a commitment to farm 100% of their own grapes in their own vineyards, Mission Hill highlights the commitment to fine wine-making found throughout the entire province.

Canadian Club

With a legacy spanning over 150 years, Canadian Club is another iconic Canadian whisky brand. What was originally branded simply as “Club Whisky”, the spirit grew to such popularity in the United States that it began to disrupt the sale of American Bourbon. In turn, the U.S. Government began to require the country of origin be displayed on the label of any liquor, and thus, Canadian Club was born.

During the Prohibition era, Canadian Club was the supplier of the vast majority of liquor bootlegged South across the border. Today, Canadian Club continues to thrive, producing high-quality whiskies that are enjoyed worldwide.

J.P. Wisers

J.P. Wisers is Canada’s oldest distillery, founded in Ontario in 1857 – a whole ten years before Canada’s confederation. Wiser began distilling on the principle that a good whisky could not be rushed, and became known for releasing exceptional whiskies aged from 20, 30 and even 40 year aged bottles.

J.P. Wisers also owns a selection of iconic Canadian spirit brands, such as Gooderham & Worts and Pike Creek. Their commitment to quality has made them a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts.

Black Hills Estate Winery

To the south of Oliver lies another of the exquisite Okanagan vineyards: Black Hills Estate Winery. A key player in the Okanagan Valley for 25 years, Black Hill has quickly become a favourite among wine lovers. Their Nota Bene Meritage is a standout, often regarded as one of the finest red wines in the region.

Alberta Premium

Owned and operated in our hometown of Calgary, Alberta Distillers are a staple in the local liquor market with multiple lines of Rye and Vodka available. Founded in 1946 on the principle that ranch hands deserved to drink great whisky; the brand has continued to be a local icon with some releases reaching worldwide markets.

Always a hometown favourite, it wasn’t until 2021 that the brand achieved the worldwide recognition it has today. Their first release of the Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye took home the award of Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible ‘World Whisky of the Year’ giving this Alberta distillery a legendary status.
