Art Glass & Stained Glass
Hall’s Auction handles a variety of historic stained glass panels, lampshades and decor, contemporary glass art, and unique sculptures made by artists across Canada and internationally.
Stained glass as a practice arrived in North America with European settlers in the 17th century. However, it wasnโt until the 19th century, as industrialization took hold, that the continent saw a significant rise in glass artisans and workshops. The birth of the 20th century, in line with the Art Nouveau movement, signaled a golden era for stained glass art and decor. Tiffany Studios, in particular, became renowned for their exquisite stained glass lamps, solidifying their name in the history of decorative arts.
Art glass followed the same trajectory, with the rise of industrialization making it more accessible for objects d’art and decor to be created for collectors. Companies like the Dominion Glass Company (Domglass) in Montreal made their mark in Canada, producing objects of all shapes, sizes and uses in the newly accessible material. Today, art glass is honed by skilled artisans and artists across the country in boutique studios, workshops and more.
